We spent four days in Shillong and all of those days in this homely B&B and have no complains. Our host, Eric, was extremely friendly, intellectual and helpful. We did not just learn about local culture, politics and history from him, but also gathered a good idea of the best places to travel to in the state. During our visit, the cook wasn’t around, but Eric’s family was kind enough to invite us for dinners and share their hearty meals with us. It’s a fuss-free place for travellers and if you’re looking for a comfortable, affordable and homely place to stay in Shillong – I’d highly recommend you stay with Eric.

Themed rooms with a view of the famed Coonoor tea gardens
Coonoor is famous for two things – its climate and its tea. At Mr. Krishna’s place you can enjoy both. The place is literally surrounded by numerous tea gardens. There is a huge common terrace which facilitates panoramic viewing of Mother Nature’s unadulterated sights. The location of the homestay earns it brownie points for being close to main Coonoor town as well as the tea gardens.
The rooms at the hometay have been designed and decorated with respect to different themes. While Nirvana and Nlighten are themed rooms the third room is a family suite which is bigger in size and accommodates more people. The Host is passionate about fitness and has substantial fitness equipment in the common area. The terrace area can be used by guests to enjoy their evening tea and unwind in the cool breeze that flows from the tea gardens.
Major tourist attraction Dolphin’s Nose is close from the homestay. Guests can also explore the nearby tea gardens on foot through nature trials. Coonoor has a lot to offer and this homestay is the perfect place to get started.
Feels like a royal stay
This villa is located exactly opposite to Dal lake. Its a very huge property with scenic surrounding. The villa has Royal rooms with lavish furniture and beautiful view of Dal lake. Its like a luxurious heritage villa. Food served is typical kashmiri food; veg & non-veg both.
Superb location, must stay in Kaza
This homestay is a must visit in Kaza. It is the oldest homestay in Kaza, located exactly opposite Kaza monastery. Old, yet very nicely maintained rooms with all modern amenities. It is on the main highway still market is hardly 5-10 mins away. They also have a small yet beautiful restaurant which serves great food. The host, Mr. Tsering, is very friendly & helpful.
A peaceful stay with some wonderful hosts
Beautiful homestay away from Manali city on the way to Rohtang Pass, located in the midst of an apple orchard. The cottage has very spacious rooms & lovely amenities. All rooms have breathtaking view of the snow-capped peaks of Manali. Organic homemade delicious food is served. The host, Mr. Ved is a very jolly person & helps his guests in all the possible ways. Perfect place to stay in Manali but to stay away from city hustle bustle.
Fabulous birdwatching trip
We have been to Mr. Chewangs farmhouse. Chewang is an expert ornithologist and knows the area and its birds like the back of his hand. Further, the stay was extremely comfortable as they make you at home in their own house and cater to all your needs.
Meals are especially very nice as they mix the local food with your likes and so make them tasty and memorable. the rooms are comfy and well equipped too.
Stunning location in terraced farms
This was the first homestay I visited in Lingee Payong and I was immediately captivated by how simple yet beautiful it was. Surrounded by terraced farms on all sides, its location is stunning and the host, Mr. Kuber, is extremely friendly and chatty too. His little kids were very inquisitive and kept me company even when I hiked further. This is a great place for backpackers who are looking to explore rural Sikkim and learn about the local culture.
Pemba, man of the mountains
It’s a very homely place and perfect for trekkers. Mr. Pemba is an expert when it comes to trekking and will be happy to help you plan treks. While here, he went out of his way to show me around the village and introduce me to his friendly neighbours. We also spent a lot of time watching videos of various local cultural programmes organised by him and the local committees in the past. He also prepared delicious pork curry with his wife which is a must try.
A trek that’s worth the effort. Stunning view from the homestay
The home stay limits its accessibility owing to its location. However, it’s definitely a climb that’s worth the effort. It’s a very homely place and Mrs. Gawri loves talking to guests and cooking for them. Her chicken is a must try. The view from both the garden and the balcony is always stunning.
Hidden gem by the forest. Delicious home-cooked food
It was really surprising to stumble upon such an old yet beautifully maintained house by the woods. The room is small and cosy, yet there’s plenty of space outside for guests to relax in. The best part is the location, where one has the option of taking long guided walks or simply spending some quiet time in the monastery close by. The host, Mrs. Sangay, loves taking care of guests and makes some delicious food.
