Two hours.
That’s all it takes to leave Mumbai’s neon glare or Pune’s buzzing lanes behind and open the creaking iron gate of SaffronStays Chira, a five-bedroom home where the only thing that moves fast is the breeze through the trees. The loudest sound? Birds, maybe a far-off whistle of a train. And the only schedule you’ll follow is the sun’s.
Born During a Pause. Built to Slow You Down.
Back in 2020, while the world stood still, the idea for this villa was quietly taking shape. The homeowner, someone who had always admired the charm of old British homes, began sketching a version of that dream right here in Khandala. With help from skilled Goan artisans, it came to life: archways, pitched roofs, old-style fireplaces, red laterite stone walls that hold the rain, and antique details that feel like they belong to another time. It’s not trying to impress. It just is.
The Library Everyone Talks About
The moment you walk in, there’s a room that draws you in without saying a word. A full library, with books from top to bottom, a sliding ladder, and armchairs that have clearly seen slow afternoons. On a rainy day, with a cup of chai in hand, it’s the kind of space where time feels softer. Whether you reach for a mystery novel or an old travelogue, chances are you’ll want to stay put for a while.

British by Design, Indian in Spirit
Chira is more than just a place. It’s a feeling. Chira is a noun, derived from the red laterite stone, the very essence of ‘brick. It symbolises resilience and endurance. Chira speaks of locales crafted to endure the ages, where nature holds sway uncontested. Derived from the beautiful Sanskrit word “chira,” meaning “forever, endless, boundless,” Chira embodies tranquillity that knows no limits.

A Garden Meant for Doing Nothing
Through the French doors, you’ll find a peaceful garden and a pool that looks especially inviting when the sky is overcast. There’s a gazebo that’s perfect for tea, snacks, or just watching the weather shift. You might hear soft jazz playing, or nothing at all. If you stay out past sunset, you may even spot fireflies across the lawn.

Why You’ll Keep Coming Back
- Close, but it doesn’t feel that way: Just two hours from the city and no hill-station chaos
- Everyone’s at ease: Grandparents on the rocking chairs, kids in the pool, dogs on the grass
- Meals that match your mood: From Konkani-style thalis to grilled platters, everything’s made fresh by the in-house chef
- No interruptions: No lobby queues, no strangers passing by, just you and your people

The Break You Didn’t Know You Needed
SaffronStays Chira isn’t a checklist. It’s where you come when you want to rest, read, eat well, and not look at the time. It’s where you fall asleep to the sound of rain and wake up to birdsong. No pressure to do anything, but plenty of space to do everything you like.
Come Friday, you’ll leave the city behind. Come Monday, you’ll return to it. But in between, you’ll find a place that reminds you to slow down, breathe deeper, and enjoy being where you are.
